Lantern Parking

Parking space is very limited on The Lantern lot itself.

Parking at The Lantern can be especially challenging in winter from December 1st to March 31st with snow route parking restrictions directly in front of the The Lantern, and the sometimes unavoidable snow build-up on the lot itself. Will also depend on other sessions on at the same time.

NOTE:  The Lantern, 35 Barnes Road, in St. John’s, now has a designated BLUE parking spot near the front entrance. There is also full wheelchair ramp access to the building. The wheelchair access door is via the far right entrance facing Barnes Road. The ramp runs the full length of the building from the parking lot.

Other Parking Options

STREET PARKING in front of The Lantern:
Some on-street parking is permitted on The Lantern side of Barnes Road directly in front of the building itself except none at all on the road December 1st to March 31st when snow-route restrictions apply.See pole signs.

A word of caution: There is only ONE SAFE SPOT on the road in front of the actual parking lot but only April to November … before snow limits street parking. It is the spot between the pole (with the Do Not Enter sign on it) and the parking lot as you enter the lot near the Lantern side.

There is parking available on Mullock Street just around the corner from The Lantern, to the right as you face The Lantern.  There is parking available during the day on the left side nearer The Lantern going towards St. Bon’s School. In the evening there is  parking available on both sides of Mullock Street.  More of a challenge during school hours or special happenings there.

Ample overflow parking is available in The Roman Catholic Basilica parking lot on Military Road. If you park at the top of the lot, then to the right as you face The Basilica from Military Road you will find a short 30-second lane way in the top far right corner that will take you directly to The Lantern parking lot. There is a large green and white sign on the far right hand corner of Presentation Convent there pointing to The Lantern walkway. The parking generally available in the Basilica yard may be more of a challenge anytime there is a special  happening at The Basilica or at The Gathering Place which is also in the Basilica lot area.
